Even if not openly communicated, employers generally have the following expectations of co-op/intern students:
- Students should report to work regularly and punctually and should provide the employer with enthusiasm and productivity.
- Students should abide by work regulations as defined by the employer.
- Students are expected to dress appropriately for the work environment and according to employer expectations.
- Students should conduct themselves in a professional and businesslike manner. Disputes and conflicts should be handled in a mature and professional fashion.
- Students should seek feedback concerning their job performance.
- Students should consult their supervisor if unsure about procedures or expectations on the job or about any conflicts or concerns related to the assignment.
- While benefiting from on-the-job training and practical experience, students are expected to contribute fresh ideas and participate as valuable members of the work team.
Conducting yourself appropriately and making a sincere effort to produce high quality work will contribute significantly toward your success as an employee.
